    On September, 24th during the Russia Summer Biathlon National Champioships  “Biathlon” sports complex hosted the regular coaches council presided by national team head coach Vladimir Barnashow. The council was followed by a coaches meeting of increased membership. Biathlonrus.com attended both sessions and the discussion of future plans of the Russian biathlon.

    The first day of the Russian Summer Biathlon Championships is over at Ufa sports complex named “Biathlon”. Third race of the first day determined the champion in the 20 km Individual competition among senior men. Maxim Maksimov finished ahead of Ivan Tcherezov and Aleksey Churin thus becoming champion. Several hours before Svetlana Sleptsova opened the Championships with her win of the 15 km ladies’ race.

    Famous Norwegin Knut Tore Berland is a new coach adviser of the Russian biathlon team. He started his visit to Russia from Tyumen where the team is training at “Siberian Pearl” venue. Right after his arrival he hold the first training at the track. Biathlonrus.com asked athletes and coaches about the European approach, biathlon trend setters and expectations of the international collaboration.

    Mikhail Tkachenko served two years in the Navy, tried himself in boxing and wrestling, but finally chose biathlon. When Valeri Medvedtsev went to the 5th grade of school, Tkachenko was already a coach. Now the teacher and his disciple train the men’s national team for a new season.  Mikhail Tkachenko told biathlonrus.com about his debut when he was 24 years old, about why he doesn’t regard Medvedtsev as his best disciple, about Shipulin and Vasiliev’s wins at the World Championships, about the team’s three leaders, about contacting with athletes by Skype and about Kenya’s wish to start doing biathlon.

    September, 11th the national team members took part in the summer biathlon competition for the Prize of Tyumen region Governor. The event took place at “Siberian Pearl” stadium where the A-team has been training recently. There were sprint races among men and women with members of the national team winning all the 6 medals. Andrey Makoveev and Svetlana Sleptsova are the champions.

    Russian national teams continue training. biathlonrus.com offers you a video concerning summer training camps. Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Sweden, Finland and, certainly, Russia were en  route for those Russian biathletes who are to represent our country at international competitions. Different pictures of real life: endurance tests in a 30-degree heat, fitness near a forest, tests with tubes and oxygen masks, girls in bikini and guys in swimming trunks.     One of the Russia’s national team youngest and most talented members Aleksey Volkov talked to biathlonrus.com for an hour. He surprised us with a confession that he sometimes prefers computer games to his day sleep. He’s a passionate fan of innovation, which he introduces among his teammates. He is electrician by training, so he advised us what’s good of his new laptop, why he thought of tank battles in Estonia and what’s his inner sensor forecasts for the new season.

    On September, 3rd at the IX IBU Congress Sergey Kuschenko, RBU Executive Director, was elected IBU First Vice-President and Khanty-Mansiysk sports committee chief Viktor Migurov became member of IBU Technical Committee. 

    Russian Biathlon Union, athletes and coaches of the national team are happy to congratulate Mr. Kuschenko and Mr. Maigurov on the election, wishing them to reach internationally the aims that are already reached at home. We believe in you!

    Last decade of August is the intense period for the Russian Biathlon Union. The summer preparation of the national team comes to an end in Oberhof, Moscow office works under the autumn national team’s schedule and prepares for the key event in the beginning of a season — the IBU Congress. The elections of the Executive Board of the International Biathlon Union will take place in St. Petersburg within the framework of the Congress. The RBU CEO Sergey Kushchenko, who is the candidate for the IBU First Vice-president came from the national team training camp in Oberhof and told biathlonrus.com about the new trainers’ team work, about the reasons to carry out the fourth training camp in Tyumen and why it’s not easy to sleep well on the eve of the Congress.

    The family of the double Olympic champion, having fulfilled two get-togethers under the individual program, has joined the Russian national team in Oberhof in its full strenght. The president of the Russian Biathlon Union, Mikhail Prokhorov held a working meeting with the presidents of the Estonian Biathlon Federation, Aivar Nigol, the Latvian Biathlon Federation, Janisch Berzinsh and the Lithuanian biathlon Federation Arunas Daugirdas in Moscow.
