Rain and fog, biathletes compete in any weather. Men’s sprint in Sochi was accompanied today by the rain and light fog. In its photo story from the women’s individual race and men’s sprint, Biathlonrus.com reports on the victories of Starykh and Bocharnikov, fast Tcherezov and Nazarova, stable accuracy of Glazyrina, and happy supporters of Zaitseva.

News of the day – Irina Starykh and Sergey Bocharnikov won races

Women opened today’s competition day with the individual race. Irina Starykh, who triumphantly won the sprint two days ago, repeated her success in individual competition. Olga Zaitseva finished second, Ekaterina Glazyrina placed third. Sergey Bocharnikov was the best among men, with Alexander Loginov and Alexey Kornev finishing second and third, accordingly.

Hero of the day – Sergey Bocharnikov

Winner of the sprint race Bocharnikov, who prepares for the season side by side with Tcherezov, Chudov, and Maximov, after finish could not believe he was the best in the race. “This victory was unexpected for me. I hoped to perform well here, but did not expect to win,” avowed Sergey to the journalists.

Heroine of the day – Irina Starykh

Competitions in Sochi became a real triumph for Irina: two races, two victories. No better result is possible. Irina fought for the victory against the most titled Russian biathlete Olga Zaitseva. Starykh managed to outrun the two time Olympic champion. “Before sprint the coach told us: “Do not be afraid of Olga Zaitseva, she is the same as you. She is the same woman, she trains, shoots. Do not be afraid, do everything you are ready for.” I think this courage helped me to win, as I simply went out there and showed the result,” said Ira.

Speed of the day – Ivan Tcherezov and Valentina Nazarova

Ivan Tcherezov had the best speed in the sprint. After making three mistakes at the shooting range, he placed sixth at the finish. Valentina Nazarova was the fastest in the women’s individual race. Biathlete of the Russian team, who trains with the squad of Vladimir Korolkevich, was very fast on the track, but shooting failed her – six misses and only 12th place.

Accuracy of the day – Ekaterina Glazyrina and Alexey Kornev

There was no one more accurate than Ekaterina Glazyrina in women’s peloton. In two races, she had no misses. In the individual race, Ekaterina was the only athlete to pass all four shootings without mistakes.

Alexey Kornev from Khany-Mansiysk was the most accurate in the men’s sprint. The result is the third place and inexpressible emotions at the finish line:)

Comment of the day — Olga Zaitseva: “I do not have a top-form now, it is too early for it”

In her usual calm manner, Olga analyzed her physical shape. According to Olga, it is too early to make serious conclusions.
