World Cup in Finnish Kontiolahti is
Accurate shooting and fifth skiing time of the day led Olga Zaitseva to the second place. Titled Russian athletes lost 6,1 seconds to the winner of the sprint Kaisa Makarainen. Another Finnish athlete Mari Laukkanen placed third.
“I am happy with the race, with both shooting and skiing. Weather conditions are not easy in Kontiolahti, the snow is difficult. It is strange that there is almost no snow in Finland now. I did well and I am glad. I feel well. I woke up, it is nice to have such form at least in the end of the season. Before and after New Year I was ill. We tried to improve my shape through starts, but there were not enough races. I cannot say, my form is super, but I feel nice,” said Zaitseva after the race.
Hero of the day – Johannes Boe
Johannes Boe celebrated the victory in the men’s sprint, his first victory happened this season in December in Annecy. The track of Kontiolahti is a happy place for Boe junior – two years ago he won here three gold medals of the junior world championships.
Speed of the day – Kaisa Makarainen and Arnd Peiffer
Resident of Joensuu, which is 20 minutes away from Kontiolahti, was so fast on the track, that even one miss did not prevent her from winning the race. Zaitseva was the fastest among the Russians, showing the fifth time of the day.
Arnd Peiffer was the fastest among men, but his one miss moved him to the third place. Dmitry Malyshko had the best skiing time in the Russian team – eighth time of the day.
Shooting of the day – Olga Vilukhina
The Russian athlete demonstrated her excellent shooting skills once again – she was the fastest to close all targets.
“Shooting was great today, I am also satisfied with shooting speed. This sprint went well for me. I am satisfied. Another sprint and pursuit are ahead. Everything is good,” said Olga after the race.
Comment of the day – Dmitry Malyshko: “Fourth place again – I miss something”
Favorite track and support of fans will certainly help Dmitry to rise to the podium.
“Russian fans support me well in Kontiolahti. Most of them are from St. Petersburg. This helps. I had my first podium in Kontiolahti, today’s race was also good. After the Olympics I do not feel pressure. We all feel relieve after Gold in the relay. Now I need to simply compete. I run with the pleasure,” commented Malyshko on the race.
